A Thursday Gathering Takeover!
The Living Ecosystem: A Female-Led Innovation Commons
Japan’s startup landscape is at a historic turning point. With a national mandate to 10x our startup output and a growing recognition of the “untapped well” of female talent, the future of the economy is already here; it just needs a central hub.
For one night, we are transforming Venture Café Tokyo into a high-density Innovation Commons. We are collapsing the distance between founders and resources to create a frictionless environment for what matters most: deal-making, mentorship, and action.
This isn’t just another panel. It is a live snapshot of Japan’s future economy. We are centralizing the entire ecosystem under one roof to remove the barriers to growth.

On April 16th, Thursday Gathering #379 gets taken over. Venture Café Tokyo becomes THE LIVING ECOSYSTEM, a high-density Innovation Commons fully dedicated to women-led innovation in Japan.

In this 15-minute opening session, we walk you through the four tracks of the evening: Growth & Capital, Visibility & Storytelling, Community & Support, and Women's Health & FemTech, and how to make the most of the night.

Who is responsible for women's health?
Everyone agrees it matters. Yet the path to sustainable investment is far from clear — the economic returns are uncertain, the timelines are long, and no single player can carry the weight alone. Private companies struggle to commit for the long term. Public institutions move slowly. The result is a space that has been called critical for decades, yet remained chronically underserved.
But something is beginning to shift.
This session brings together a policy official from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's Healthcare Industries Division, the head of the Open Innovation Center at the National Center for Child Health and Development's Women's Health Center, and a practicing obstetrician leading a femtech venture. Government, research, and business — each with a distinct vantage point — will come together to ask who can actually move this space forward, and how.
How can these sectors collaborate to create lasting social and economic value? What does it mean to design women's health not as a niche market, but as social infrastructure? And where does Japan stand in the global women's health ecosystem?
This session does not stop at "it matters." It asks what it takes to actually make it move.

The knowledge born in research labs too often stays there.
Japan has world-class researchers and groundbreaking ideas. Yet the path from academic knowledge to startup ecosystems and social change remains narrow. Between research and implementation are walls of language, structure, and culture. The translators capable of bridging that gap are still in critically short supply.
This session brings together scholars and practitioners across labor economics, entrepreneurship education, DEI, and corporate health promotion to examine where Japan's academic ecosystem stands today and what it takes to move research knowledge into the real world.
Why does the potential of women researchers remain underutilized? What gets lost between research and business? And how do we develop the people who can bridge these worlds?
A session dedicated to asking what must change, to finally set academic knowledge free.

Descriptions:
You already know how to tell a story. You've been doing it your whole life. This session is about bringing that natural ability into your professional communication — without turning it into a complicated production.
In this hands-on workshop, you'll tell a real business story twice: once before learning any framework, and once after. What often surprises people is how little needs to change — because most of us are already closer to great storytelling than we think.
In between, you'll be introduced to a simple, memorable structure that helps you shape any business story with clarity and impact. Whether you're pitching an idea, leading a meeting, or introducing yourself, it gives you just enough to feel confident — without feeling scripted.
You'll leave with:
A go-to structure for any business story
Direct experience of your own storytelling strengths
One refined story you can use right away
No performance required. No perfection expected. Just you, a story worth telling, and a simple tool to tell it better.

Descriptions:
「Cross Everything」
Who shapes a city, and how?
A city is the blueprint of society itself. Who gets to draw it? Whose voices are reflected in it? Right now, the designers are starting to change. Government, international institutions, media, each engages with the city differently. When the faces at those decision-making tables shift, society shifts with them.
This Plenary Session brings together the mayors of Minato and Shinagawa wards, a representative from the Austrian Embassy Trade Commission, and the editor-in-chief of Business Insider Japan. Vienna's outside lens reframes what it means to design a truly global city. Together, they explore cities and startup ecosystems, women's economic participation, next-generation leadership, and Tokyo's role on the world stage.
When women lead societal decision-making, what actually changes? What does it take for government and startups to move in genuine alignment? And where is Tokyo headed as an international city?
Under "Cross Everything," leaders who have crossed borders, sectors, and cultures open The Living Ecosystem with a conversation that looks outward from Tokyo to the world.

Visibility doesn’t happen by accident — but it also doesn’t have to be exhausting.
This panel brings together women who have built genuine public presence in Japan’s startup ecosystem to talk honestly about what it takes: the platforms, the pivots, and the moments that changed how they were seen. Part strategy, part personal story, entirely practical.
Who it attracts: Founders and professionals who want to raise their profile and aren’t sure where to start — or who’ve started and want to go further.

Is capital really allocated fairly?
While women are increasingly stepping into the role of founders in Japan, a significant gap still remains in how startup funding is distributed. This is not simply a matter of access to capital. It reflects deeper structural dynamics shaped by investor networks, decision-making processes, access to global markets, and the broader design of the ecosystem itself.
This session brings together investors, founders, and ecosystem builders who have been directly involved in supporting the growth and international expansion of women founders. Together, they will unpack the realities of fundraising and the underlying mechanisms that determine who gets funded.
Who actually receives capital in Japan, and why? What are investors really looking for? What differentiates founders who gain access to global opportunities from those who do not?
We will also explore the role of support programs and networks in closing opportunity gaps, and what needs to change to shift the flow of capital going forward.
Rather than stopping at problem awareness, this session aims to push the conversation toward action, offering practical insights into what must change next.

Descriptions:
Community is infrastructure.
Most people know community matters. Fewer know how to build it so it actually works — connecting founders and leaders to funding, partnerships, and real opportunity.
This session brings together practitioners who have built and operated communities from distinctly different vantage points. Fumiha Branscombe has led the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's APT Women program for five years. Akiko Maeda brings community management experience from both TIB and Endeavor. Hidekuni Takagi built a thriving community through his coworking space BIRTH in Azabu-Juban, serves on the board of JCCO, and invests as an angel across the ecosystem. Moderating is Moeko Suzuki, founder of Startup Lady Japan, a community spanning 52 countries and 1,350 members.
How does community translate into real opportunity? Where does network leverage begin? And what design principles should builders keep in mind?
No theory. Just practice.

I'm driven by a single question: how do we build a healthier and more equitable world for our children and future generations? That question is what led me to co-found Global Perspectives Japan, and it shapes everything I do.
For nearly a decade I have worked with organizations across Asia, including Rakuten, Olympus, and PwC, to shift mindsets, transform cultures, and develop leaders who are genuinely equipped for the complexity ahead. I sit at the intersection of sustainability, neuroscience, behavioral psychology, regenerative business models, and planet-centric design, not because those are separate disciplines I happen to be curious about, but because I believe they are all part of the same conversation about how humans and organizations need to evolve.
I do not separate organizational transformation from environmental responsibility. For me, they are the same work. A truly future-fit leader cannot think about people without thinking about the planet. A truly healthy culture cannot thrive in an ecosystem it is depleting.
Based in Kanagawa and operating across Asia and beyond, Global Perspectives specializes in developing leaders and organizational cultures that are inclusive, innovative, and built to last. I am constantly exploring what comes next, and I believe the most important work any of us can do right now is build the conditions for a better world to emerge.

My passion for the tech industry, programming, data science, and emerging technologies has significantly intensified. I am driven to amalgamate my diplomatic expertise with a fervent interest in technology, aspiring to bridge the gap between traditional diplomacy and modern technological advancements.
My commitment to nurturing cultural connections is complemented by my creative pursuits. Based in Tokyo, I work as a filmmaker, writer, and director. As a producer, I am the founder of my own production house, Tyszkiewicz Films.
Beyond my professional endeavors, I derive joy from reading, traveling, and cherishing moments with family and friends.
