概要 | Descriptions：
This session presents the experience of a group of Swiss Business Team Academy students who traveled to Japan to explore entrepreneurship, innovation, and cross-cultural collaboration.
During our stay, we worked on real consulting mandates with two very different organizations. One operates in an international environment in Japan, while the other is deeply rooted in Japanese culture and local business practices. Through these projects, we had the opportunity to observe how entrepreneurship, decision-making, and collaboration differ between Switzerland and Japan.
Our presentation will highlight key insights from these experiences, including differences in communication styles, business expectations, and problem-solving approaches. We will also discuss what it means to adapt to a new business culture, build trust with partners from another cultural background, and work effectively in an unfamiliar professional environment.
Beyond the projects themselves, we will reflect on what young entrepreneurs and students can learn from stepping outside their comfort zones and engaging directly with a different culture.
The goal of the session is to share practical lessons on cross-cultural entrepreneurship while encouraging audience dialogue on international collaboration, cultural differences, and potential opportunities between Japan and Europe.

本ワークショップは、堀江愛利の新刊『HITOLOGY やりたい仕事を自分でつくる― シリコンバレー発 自分を活かした「はじめて起業」―』（ディスカヴァー・トゥエンティワン）のテーマをもとに開催します。
事前にお手に取っていただくことで、ご自身の「在り方（Being）」を考えながらご参加いただけ、より有意義な時間をお過ごしいただけます。

The Venture Café community, committed to the mission of “Connecting Innovators to Make Things Happen,” has brought about numerous “Happenings” in the past. This session is designed to introduce newcomers to our weekly signature event, “Thursday Gathering,” and facilitate networking among first-time attendees (Beginners). Our aim is to ensure that everyone can fully enjoy and engage with our community. Please feel free to join us!

Heather is a globally recognized certified coach, facilitator and community builder with over 15 years of experience helping individuals uncover their true potential and align their actions with their dreams. Her diverse background includes working with executives, leaders and managers in large corporate and startup environments in multiple countries around the world to cultivate self-awareness, courage, and practices for success.
Highly experienced, Heather works with clients individually and in teams across a range of topics— from leadership, to burnout prevention and recovery, to major life and career transitions, to inner confidence and self-expression, to communication. She is also a trusted TEDx speaker coach.
Based in Hayama and Tokyo, she currently serves on the Board of Directors for Startup Lady Japan. In her free time you can find her practicing kickboxing, enjoying a delicious craft beer, or hiking in the lush hills of Shonan.
Fuminori carries a deep understanding of cross-cultural teams, shaped by growing up in Germany, studying in the Netherlands, and having spent most of his career in Tokyo/Japan.

Dr. Joe Hug is an accomplished entrepreneur, educator, and strategic advisor with over 15 years of international business experience. After beginning his career in U.S. military healthcare, he transitioned into consulting, where his firm delivers cross-cultural strategy planning and executive training programs to leading multinational corporations in Tokyo.
Academically, he has taught at institutions including New York University (NYU), the University of Tokyo, and Tokyo Medical and Dental University. He is currently a full-time Professor of Practice in Entrepreneurship at iU University and serves as an adjunct professor for the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) MBA program and Hosei University's GMBA program. His work bridges entrepreneurship, global strategy, and ecosystem development.

This session presents the experience of a group of Swiss Business Team Academy students who traveled to Japan to explore entrepreneurship, innovation, and cross-cultural collaboration.
During our stay, we worked on real consulting mandates with two very different organizations. One operates in an international environment in Japan, while the other is deeply rooted in Japanese culture and local business practices. Through these projects, we had the opportunity to observe how entrepreneurship, decision-making, and collaboration differ between Switzerland and Japan.
Our presentation will highlight key insights from these experiences, including differences in communication styles, business expectations, and problem-solving approaches. We will also discuss what it means to adapt to a new business culture, build trust with partners from another cultural background, and work effectively in an unfamiliar professional environment.
Beyond the projects themselves, we will reflect on what young entrepreneurs and students can learn from stepping outside their comfort zones and engaging directly with a different culture.
The goal of the session is to share practical lessons on cross-cultural entrepreneurship while encouraging audience dialogue on international collaboration, cultural differences, and potential opportunities between Japan and Europe.

The Venture Café community, committed to the mission of “Connecting Innovators to Make Things Happen,” has brought about numerous “Happenings” in the past. This session is designed to introduce newcomers to our weekly signature event, “Thursday Gathering,” and facilitate networking among first-time attendees (Beginners). Our aim is to ensure that everyone can fully enjoy and engage with our community. Please feel free to join us!

Heather is a globally recognized certified coach, facilitator and community builder with over 15 years of experience helping individuals uncover their true potential and align their actions with their dreams. Her diverse background includes working with executives, leaders and managers in large corporate and startup environments in multiple countries around the world to cultivate self-awareness, courage, and practices for success.
Highly experienced, Heather works with clients individually and in teams across a range of topics— from leadership, to burnout prevention and recovery, to major life and career transitions, to inner confidence and self-expression, to communication. She is also a trusted TEDx speaker coach.
Based in Hayama and Tokyo, she currently serves on the Board of Directors for Startup Lady Japan. In her free time you can find her practicing kickboxing, enjoying a delicious craft beer, or hiking in the lush hills of Shonan.
Fuminori carries a deep understanding of cross-cultural teams, shaped by growing up in Germany, studying in the Netherlands, and having spent most of his career in Tokyo/Japan.
Having worked at the cross-section of B2B x Tech x New Business Development for the last 15+ yearsー in management consultancy, SoftBank Robotics, local startups with one of them ending in a major M&A exit, as well as US HR Tech unicorn Deel, Fuminori now applies his global network and problem-solving expertise to transform talent acquisition into an orchestrated practice.

Dr. Joe Hug is an accomplished entrepreneur, educator, and strategic advisor with over 15 years of international business experience. After beginning his career in U.S. military healthcare, he transitioned into consulting, where his firm delivers cross-cultural strategy planning and executive training programs to leading multinational corporations in Tokyo.
Academically, he has taught at institutions including New York University (NYU), the University of Tokyo, and Tokyo Medical and Dental University. He is currently a full-time Professor of Practice in Entrepreneurship at iU University and serves as an adjunct professor for the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) MBA program and Hosei University's GMBA program. His work bridges entrepreneurship, global strategy, and ecosystem development.
慶應義塾大学卒業後、デンマークの海運世界最大手Maersk Lineに入社。その後フリーランスの日英バイリンガルMC/通訳として主に国際会議やスポーツ国際大会、海外トレードショー等で活躍し、2013年株式会社キャリーオンを設立。 子ども服の買取・販売コミュニティ「キャリーオン」事業を通じてSDGs5、12の達成にも寄与し、2020年退任。2021年キャリーオン売却。2021年、世界中で注目を集めるヘンプ抽出物CBDを用いたボタニカルフードテック 株式会社Leaflowを設立し、代表取締役CEOに就任。CBDを使った健康的な食品を提供することによって、よりよい社会作りに貢献する。日本ではまだ数少ない女性のシリアルアントレプレナーとして活躍するかたわら、Startup Lady Japan理事、One Young World Japan理事として、女性アントレプレナーおよび日本を支える次世代グローバルリーダーの育成にも従事。 Rui is a Tokyo based serial entrepreneur successfully exited in 2021 July, CEO and Co-Founder of Leaflow Inc that leads the next generation CBD products throughout Japan and Asia. Previously co-founded Carry On Inc. in 2013 operating "Carry On (Social Closet®) " the hassle-free sharing platform for gently worn children’s clothing. Well experienced with e-commerce, retail service, sustainability for consuming goods, PR & branding, strategy marketing, team building. She is on a mission to incubate women entrepreneurs and to empower next-gen leaders in Japan as Startup Lady/One Young World directors as well. Previously, 10+ years experience at event operation, public relations, emceeing, interpreting as freelance. 3 years experience at Maersk Line for international shipping business. Bachelor of Arts, Keio University 1997.
1997 年にカリフォルニア州立大学を卒業。米国IBMを経て、数々のスタートアップでのキャリアをもとに、2013 年、米シリコンバレー初の女性に特化した起業家支援事業、「Women’s Startup Lab」 を創業。世界中から集まる女性起業家の育成やベンチャー支援を行う。シリコンバレーに深く密なネットワークを持ちながら、一人一人の革命を促すマインドセット変革を含む独自メソッドによる育成プログラムで注目を集めると共に、近年はイノベーション加速を目的とした企業のエグゼクティブ/リーダー育成に多く携わり、参加者から多大な評価を受けている。その功績を称えられ、CNN「10 Visionary Women（10 人のビジョナリーウーマン）」、マリ・クレール誌「20 Women Who Are Changing the Ratio（男女比を変える 20 人の女性）」、Entrepreneur Magazine「100 Powerful Women of 2020」など、多くの賞を受賞。2022年3月8日には、「境界を突破し、次世代に希望を与える女性」として、バービー人形で知られるマテル社より、『ロールモデル』シリーズの一員として、日本人起業家として初めて選出され、益々の活動が期待される。2022年春より、日本の女性、高校生を対象に、女性の起業を支援するプロジェクト「Amelias」を始動。著書に、『HITOLOGY やりたい仕事を自分でつくる シリコンバレー発 自分を活かした「はじめて起業」』がある。
