Singapore is strengthening its presence as one of Asia’s leading startup hubs. It is attracting growing attention not only as a promising market entry destination for Japanese companies, but also as a major source of high-quality deep tech startups.
In this session, we will welcome Mr. Gustavo Liu, Senior Assistant Director at A*STAR (Agency for Science, Technology and Research), the key organization driving Singapore’s R&D and commercialization efforts. He will share insights into the policy background, ecosystem characteristics, and the latest initiatives shaping the country’s innovation landscape.
The session will also feature pitches from seven cutting-edge startups across various advanced technology fields. As a business incubation specialist, he has been involved in the launch of numerous startups and the development of new business initiatives for corporations. He leads various activities connecting Japan’s innovation ecosystem with global markets, supporting innovation programs in collaboration with embassies and startup support organizations from multiple countries, and serving as a mentor for many startup acceleration programs. His roles include J-Startup Recommendation Committee Member, Tokyo Metropolitan Government Startup Fellow, Japan Representative for Start2 Group, and Operations Manager of Endeavor Japan, among others.
Gustavo Liu is a deep-tech venture architect dedicated to transforming frontier science into globally competitive companies. As Program Lead at A*StartCentral, the venture creation arm of Singapore’s Agency of Science Technology and Research (A*STAR). He designs and leads structured venture-building platforms that move breakthrough research from lab to market with speed, discipline, and commercial purpose. His role goes beyond commercialization support—he helps architect the pathway from breakthrough innovation to real-world impact by sharpening commercial theses, validating market demand, shaping go-to-market strategies, and building investor-ready narratives.
